German Red Cabbage
We tried this recipe from grouprecipes.com and love it. If you’re not a big fan of apples,
chop it into just a few pieces, throw it in for flavor, and take it out before serving. For
the bacon lovers out there – three more pieces won’t hurt this recipe at all!
1 small head red cabbage (about 1 ½ lbs), coarsely chopped
1 large apple, chopped
½ cup chopped onion
2 Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsp vinegar (or to taste)
3 slices of bacon, cooked & crumbled
1 Tbsp bacon drippings (or cooking oil)
½ tsp salt
½ cup water
In large saucepan, combine all ingredients
& bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat &
simmer for an hour. Serves 4.
